Affordable Online Master’s Degrees for Working Teachers

Teachers who are interested in specialization or in advancement to administrative roles can benefit from completing a Master of Education degree. The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) offers eight online M.Ed. degrees at a nominal price, allowing teachers to progress in their careers without the financial stress often associated with obtaining an advanced degree.

ULM offers six M.Ed. degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, each with a further specialization. Teachers may also select from two degrees focusing on leadership: M.Ed. Educational Leadership or M.Ed. Educational Technology Leadership. Each of the eight degrees consists of 36 hours of coursework at a total tuition cost of $11,340.

Why Choose an Online Degree Program?

ULM’s M.Ed. programs offer cost savings not only through nominal tuition but also through the flexible start dates and eight-week classes that enable students to complete coursework in as few as 15 months. The accelerated program timeline allows students to wrap up their degree and move on with their career goals.

Flexibility is a key element of ULM’s online M.Ed. programs, which are designed for working teachers. Candidates do not have to leave their current job to enroll in an advanced degree program. Instead, they can continue to work and draw a salary. The online nature of the program allows them to plan their studies around their job and other activities.

This flexibility also helps students who are parents or caregivers plan their study time so they don’t incur costs for child or eldercare.

Students realize additional savings in not having to commute to class. The savings on gasoline alone can add up. Other incidental costs saved include vehicle maintenance, possible tolls, parking permits and meals away from home.

Accredited and Nationally Ranked

ULM’s online degree programs are regionally accredited and nationally recognized, with ULM being the only university in the state of Louisiana to be included in TheBestSchools.org 2018-19 ranking of the 100 Best Online Colleges. This ranking is based, in part, upon the university’s effective delivery of online instruction. Also considered in the determination of the top 100 rankings were the range of degrees offered, tuition costs, faculty strength and academic excellence.

ULM’s commitment to excellence is also seen in its membership with the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, whose 800-plus member institutions are dedicated to offering high-quality, evidenced-based educator preparation programs.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 9 percent growth rate in education, training and library occupations through 2026, and estimates about 890,000 new jobs will be created as a result of expected increases in enrollment at all levels and across different educational settings.

As of May 2017, median annual wages for these occupations was $48,740, which is higher than the average for all occupations. Those with M.Ed. degrees typically experienced a relatively high payoff for their advanced degree, earning a premium over holders of bachelor’s degrees.
