In which online program do you teach?

RN to BSN

Which classes do you teach online?

  • NURS 2014: Computing for Nurses

What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?

Students in this online course will learn to conduct sophisticated research using databases, access and evaluate electronic sources of healthcare information, discuss technological innovations in healthcare, explore the nurse's role in development and use of technology and information management systems, and examine the relationship of technology to quality patient care and safety.

Why did you start teaching?

I developed an appreciation for computer applications before finishing my first degree in 1987. I was asked to work as a graduate assistant in one of the few computer labs on campus while earning my M.Ed. and found I had a knack for helping people use technology. That became my career!

What advice would you give to those considering the online RN to BSN program?

The equivalent to "Sit on the front row" in a face-to-face course. Be an active group participant, communicate with your instructor along the way. Don't let the first time they hear from you be at the end of the class when you have a question about a grade. Take part and get the most out of the class. It's for you!

What qualities make someone particularly successful in nursing?

Self-responsibility, organization and no procrastination.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that nurses face today?.

Overload.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you.

I'm an Army Brat and loved growing up that way.
