"How do I ensure there are other caring and compassionate nurses to take care of my loved ones? I can teach 10 students at a time how to be compassionate nurses—and then I multiply myself by 10 each semester. That is why I am teaching in the nursing program at ULM."
- MSN – University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2015
- BSN – University of Louisiana at Monroe, 2013
I have worked as an RN for 4 years with a specialty in ICU. I am currently working on a Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
In which online programs do you teach?
Which class do you teach online?
I teach the online pharmacology class for the BSN for RNs program.
What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?
Students will learn advanced knowledge regarding common medications given in the hospital setting.
Why did you start teaching?
When I started working in the ICU after graduating with my RN from ULM, I had many life-changing experiences. I made friends with families that I would stand by at their loved one's funeral and who would stand by me at my baby shower. I knew I was a good and caring nurse because I was doing what God had called me to do. I quickly realized that I am only one person, and my impact is great but small. So how do I multiply myself? How do I ensure there are other caring and compassionate nurses to take care of my loved ones? I can teach 10 students at a time how to be compassionate nurses—and then I multiply myself by 10 each semester. That is why I am teaching in the nursing program at ULM.
What advice would you give to those considering this online degree program?
Going back into school is never easy. At this point in your life, you probably have a family and a full-time job with expectations. Take the program one day at a time, one deadline at a time. You can do it!
What qualities make someone particularly successful in the profession in which you teach?
Determination is a must in order to pursue and complete any degree in nursing.
